Next up in this blogging series we’re going to talk about podcasts. I used to listen to podcasts avidly about six years ago. Then I stopped for the longest time. Last year I saw on Joy’s blog Oh Joy that she was featured on an episode of The Lively Show. From that first episode I was hooked and I’ve since subscribed to a heap of other shows. I’ve found podcasts to be helpful (and entertaining) for all areas of my life, not just blogging, so even though I’m focusing on blogging and business podcasts today I will do another post sometime soon about all the podcasts I love! Without further ado, here are my favourite blogging and business podcasts:
This podcast is more about life than blogging but a lot of Jess’ interviewees are bloggers and/or small business owners so the topic of blogging definitely pops up. Jess is a former accessory designer who now runs a business (podcast, blog and e-course) focused on helping people live by value-based intentions. Her podcast, The Lively Show, is a series of interviews with guests from all walks of life (although they do tend to work on the Internet in some form or another). So as the podcast is about these individuals’ lives there aren’t set blogging or business topics that are discussed – you learn from listening to their stories and how they’ve done things.
This podcast is all about what the title suggests – making money passively. That doesn’t mean you do nothing to make money – it just means you make it work for you. Some of Pat’s guests’ experiences are extreme – like making six figures a year while working 4 hours per week, or running 100+ niche sites. Those just aren’t things I see for myself – I’d be happier focusing on turning A Lovely Look into a substantial business than running several niche sites and I’m fine working a full week. But the idea of setting my business up so that it runs perfectly and makes money while I sleep is definitely an idea I am behind. So I take the extreme examples and make them work for me and my blog.
I briefly mentioned Darren’s blog ProBlogger in my last blogging post but I didn’t talk about it too much as it’s a pretty well-known blog that I thought most of you would have heard of. You might not be aware though that Darren has just launched a podcast! There’s only been a handful of episodes but so far so good. At the moment the episodes are centred around the series 31 Days to Build a Better Blog. Each episode focuses on a specific area and actionable task. I’m really excited to take the course and complete the challenges myself.
Make It Happen is the latest addition to my iTunes library, after a reader commented on my last blogging post recommending Jenny’s blog and podcast. I haven’t had a good look through her blog yet but I have listened to her podcast. The format of her show is similar to Jess Lively’s in that they’re interviews about life and business but her focus is much more on business. The podcast is titled as one for bloggers and creatives – and that’s definitely what it is! After only a few episodes I have learnt so much from some truly inspiring entrepreneurs!
