The completion of our new house is getting closer, although we still don’t have a final date! We’re expecting it to be within the next 6-8 weeks though (please keep your fingers crossed for us) so we’re now reaching new levels of excitement!
In order to keep myself from going mad in this seemingly never-ending waiting game I’ve been searching for inspiration and planning our décor. You might remember I started looking on Pinterest over eight months ago but I then stopped for a while.
Lucky for me, my amazing family and friends bought me several home décor books for my birthday and Christmas. These two events were timed perfectly with the start of our build in December. I’ve spent many hours perusing them this summer and my head is now exploding with ideas. My plan is to now gather all my ideas and sort them into room plans and shopping lists – I’ve started a wishlist board on Pinterest which is rather handy!
HAPPY HANDMADE HOME BY ELSIE LARSON & EMMA CHAPMAN
As the title suggests this book is full of the DIYs, crafts and handmade touch we all know and love from Elsie and Emma’s blog, A Beautiful Mess. The images are absolutely gorgeous and their bright aesthetics get my creative thoughts going!
DOMINO: THE BOOK OF DECORATING BY DOMINO EDITORS
Each chapter in this book is dedicated to one room/area and discusses its overall style, components (such as furniture and décor items), examples from real houses and concludes with the story of the room. I particularly loved the tips which discuss layout of rooms and placement of items as I didn’t even know where to start with that!
DESIGN BLOGGERS AT HOME BY ELLIE TENNANT
I’m a blogger who’s obsessed with home décor and all things blogging so how could I not love this book?! I love that this book features the homes of so many different people so it’s a huge mix of styles; I found this super inspiring! It’s also fun getting a sneak peek into the homes of people whose blogs of read. Plus, there’s an extra chapter at the end which features tips for starting your own blog – I thought that was pretty awesome!
ELEMENTS OF STYLE BY ERIN GATES
This book is unlike all the others – actually it’s unlike any book I’ve ever come across! The book is a mix of interior design advice and witty essays about Erin’s personal life. It provided the perfect mix of pretty pictures, helpful bite-sized tips and heartwarming stories. I first heard about the book when Erin (who is a blogger and interior decorator) was a guest on Jess Lively’s The Lively Show and I was instantly intrigued!
