Happy New Year! Wow, what a year 2016 was! I can’t believe I celebrated New Year’s Eve in London. I’ve done these start of the year posts for the last couple of years; I love that they become a little time capsule of my past year and my hopes for the next year.
So I said this with 2015, but 2016 really flew by quickly! As soon as we decided to make the move to England, it’s like the second half of 2016 just disappeared. It’s crazy that we left New Zealand over four months ago.
On a global level 2016 was a really horrible year – the amount of political unrest around the world at the moment is absolutely frightening. My heart bleeds for everyone who has experienced any one of the disasters around the world last year – whether that be natural disasters, wars or terrorist attacks.
On a personal level, 2016 was definitely one of the best (if not the best) years of my life. It’s definitely been a year of adventure.
The year started off perfectly with a family holiday in Queenstown. It was just what we needed – a whole lot of sun and fun!

In April I got to see my best friend Perri get married. Being there for my oldest friend on her special day is an experience I will always treasure.
2016 was also the year I became a God Mother when my best friend April had her beautiful girl Lily.

In May we celebrated living in our house for a year. Soon after that, we decided to make a big move!! For most of my life it’s been my dream to move to the UK but after we finished university we decided we’d rather stay in New Zealand and buy a house. In 2016, the travel bug came back – we started talking about wanting to travel (Myron had never been overseas) and realised that a move to the UK would be the way to do it.
The next couple of months were
a bit very stressful as we packed, planned and booked our trip. But it’s been worth it!
On our way to the UK, we had such amazing holidays in Darwin, Brisbane and LA (more vlogs coming soon). Now here we are in the UK! We’ve had such wonderful experiences over the last few months. We stayed in Hollywood, went to Disneyland and Universal Studios, sat in the audience for a recording of The Late Late Show with James Corden, visited Stonehenge, Bath and Brighton. I could go on but like I said, vlogs are coming soon!
Here’s a look at our trip in numbers:
3 countries (Australia, USA, England)
8 cities (Brisbane, Darwin, Katherine, Los Angeles, Anaheim, London, Brighton, Birmingham)
3 theme parks
The last couple of months have had their fair share of ups and downs. We’re so thrilled to be here and loving all our new experiences. But we’re anxious to start working and feeling a little lonely. Our best friends, Perri and Alex, are joining us later this month and we’re so excited to share this adventure with them!
I can’t even begin to imagine what 2017 will hold. There are just so many unknowns… where will we work… where will we live… what countries will we visit?! For the first time in my life, I am totally open to a year of uncertainty. But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have some plans and goals.
I really love the idea of picking a word for the year. I think it’s such a simple way of making sure your year is what you want it to be. My word for this year is Focus. For me, that just means I’m going to dedicate time to the things I want to do and being present and focussed as I do them. Whether that’s working on my blog without becoming distracted by Netflix, staying present during a holiday or remembering my health goals as I eat and exercise.
Bring on 2017 I say! I’m excited for a year of travel, adventure and focus!
