Sometimes it can get a little frustrating being in the Southern Hemisphere. I want pumpkins and falling leaves during Halloween and chilly evenings at Christmas time. Growing up watching American TV and movies and now reading American blogs really gives me a sense of FOMO this time of year. With Halloween nearing I want to decorate my house with pumpkins and burnt oranges, reds and yellows. But alas, it’s spring time here!
This DIY Halloween jack-o-lantern planter includes a little bit of the North (pumpkins) and a bit of the South (flowers). It allows me to indulge my American Halloween fantasy while still being New Zealand springtime appropriate.
1. Drill holes around the base for water to drain.
2. Put potting mix into the pumpkin until it’s about half full.
3. Gently take your potted flower out of its container.
4. Then place it into the pumpkin and add more potting mix if it’s needed.
And you’re done! If you’re going to keep these inside, you’ll want to store them on a base.
I hope you enjoyed this post! You’ll see a few more of these “spring-themed” Halloween DIYs on the blog this year. There’ll still be more traditional decorations too. Have you started decorating your house for Halloween?
