I‘m sure we’ve all seen this Martha Stewart picture on Pinterest which was the inspiration behind this project. I always have the best intentions to scrapbook my holidays and big events but it never really happens so I think this is such a great idea. I’m planning on getting all my photos, tickets stubs and other memorabilia into cute keepsake boxes over the next couple of months.
For this project I used a wooden box (Spotlight has some and Amazon also has some good options here, here and here), paint, paint brushes and water. Instead of just using paint I mixed 1 part water with 2 parts paint to give it a lighter finish. I noticed that the paint mixture really needed to be mixed thoroughly or it went on very uneven. After I painted the boxes I left them to dry for about four hours.
I then got out my sharpies (I’m a little obsessed with Sharpies!). I grabbed my first box and labelled it – this box is for all my memories from my first two years of university when I studied law at the University of Waikato.
I wasn’t too happy with how the writing came out so I’m going to buy some stencils and redo this part with paint. I was really happy with the finish of the paint on these though! For my second box I filled it with bits and pieces from my trips to Australia over the last couple of years.
