I love birthdays! You’re probably thinking of course you do Hannah, everyone does! But I mean I really really love birthdays! I love everything about them – shopping for presents, wrapping presents, opening presents, baking, crafting, eating, playing games, dancing and celebrating! I’m always up for celebrating the people I love and awesome life events so I get so excited whenever it’s someone’s birthday. Now’s the part where I tell you it’s my boyfriend’s / mom’s / loved one’s birthday this week buuut it’s not… I just really felt like making something birthday-related.
PAPER OR CARD
FINISHED PAPER TOWEL ROLL
I made three different types of decorative birthday candles – all use yellow cardstock as the flame but each wax bit (I don’t know what it’s called) is made from a different material – the blue one is paper rolled up, the pink and white one is a paper straw and the silver one is an empty paper towel roll wrapped in wrapping paper. I also really want to make a giant one using an empty wrapping paper roll but I didn’t have a finished one lying around – I guess I’ll have to wait for a real birthday to make that one.
This was such a simple and quick DIY and I think it’s got an awesome result. I can just imagine decorating a party with a bunch of them!
Paper Straw Birthday Candle: All you need to do for this one is cut a flame shape out of your yellow cardstock and stick it to your straw with cellotape.
Rolled Paper Birthday Candle: For this one cardstock would probably work best as it’s more firm but I used paper and it worked just fine. Roll your paper/cardstock into a cylinder and then secure with glue. Add some cellotape to strengthen the hold if you need to (I did). Then as above just cut a flame out of yellow cardstock and stick onto your candle.
Paper Towel Roll Birthday Candle: Measure and cut out your wrapping paper so that you have enough to cover your paper towel roll. The roll this around the paper towel roll and secure with cellotape. Make and attach your flame as above.
