I‘ll never be one to deny myself treats – I can’t turn down macarons, hot chocolates or anything salted caramel – but I am trying to eat healthier on a day-to-day basis. The hardest part of this for me is craving something sweet after meals. The internet’s solution to this? Bliss balls of course! They’ve been showing up all over the place and there a host of variations – gluten free, dairy free, vegan etc. – but I hadn’t come across a recipe that sounded like a bit of me. I wanted something fuss-free that would use ingredients I’d already have on hand and I absolutely despise coconut so this made the problem harder!
I decided to come up with my own recipe! While it’d certainly be healthier to grab a piece of fruit, these little beauties satisfy my chocolate cravings and hit the spot like an apple can’t (without the bajillion calories and additives you’d get in a packet of biscuits)!
1 1/2 cups of Almonds
2 cups of Dates
1/2 cup of Oats
1/2 cup of Cashews
14 squares (80g) of melted Whittaker’s Dark Ghana chocolate
1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter
Step 1: Add the dry ingredients (almonds, dates, oats & cashews) into your food processor. Process on high (for about 2 minutes) until finely chopped.
Step 2: Add peanut butter and melted chocolate to the mix. Process for another 1-2 minutes until combined.
Step 3: Roll into balls and refrigerate.
This recipe makes about 25-30 bliss balls (depending on how big you make them).
Let me know if you try this recipe – I’d love to hear how it goes for you! If you’ve got any recipes for healthy(ish) treats then please leave them in the comments.
