If your eyelids are anything like mine, eyeshadow slides right off after a few hours. This either results in me looking like I didn’t put any eye makeup on or me looking like a panda – neither of which is ideal. Despite having very dry skin my eyelids are actually quite oily and eye makeup just doesn’t last. Naturally, I’m always on the hunt for a good eyeshadow primer.
I usually stick to the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – I’ve tried cheaper alternatives over the years but none seem to do the job quite as well as Primer Potion. When my friend Sophie first gave me this product (almost a year ago) I didn’t pay much attention. Recently I’d run out of my Primer Potion and couldn’t get away with not using a primer so I hunted through my collection and came across this little gem.
I gave it a go one morning and truthfully I didn’t expect much from it because it is really cheap – only $19 from Farmers – and I hadn’t had much luck with other cheap primers. After one day’s use though I was pretty pleased, I decided to give it a few more goes before I made up my mind about it. After using it for a few weeks now I am happy report that it is an excellent primer!
I found this primer works with both matte and shimmer eyeshadows, however I do get a longer lasting power when I pair it with matte eyeshadow – about nine hours as opposed to seven with shimmer eyeshadow; without primer I’m lucky to get four!
I really like its consistency – it’s really thin and is easy to spread evenly over the eye, this also stops it looking a bit heavy which I find many eyeshadow primers do. It also has a really nice colour, while being a bit of a nude white in the tube it actually goes on quite clear on the skin which stops it from interfering with your eyeshadow’s colour. It doesn’t cancel out any redness, veins or skin pigmentation you might have on your eyelids though.
This product simply promises to extend the wear of eyeshadow colour and it surely does! At $19 it’s a pretty great price as well!
